Hi Mick,

Way back in the early eighties you gave me a drum lesson in a room above a pub in Wandsworth - £10 it cost and you ran over by at least 40 minutes!

I just want to say thank you for what you taught me - I still play (in a band called March To The Grave) and use the "Swiss triplets" at every gig - Cheers!

Hello, I'm presently writing an encylcopaedia of 60's uk groups and wondered if someone can confirm for me whether Mick played with Terry Clarke and Harvey Hinsley in a group called The Clockwork Oranges and who had a single 'Ready Steady' in 1966? I'd like to dispell a rumor that this band was not British and would be so grateful if anyone can confirm this, or not. I can be reached at tinker03@telus.net. Thanks so much.

Thumbing though some of my old LP's, I came upon Quatermass..scratched and slightly warped, so feeling a bit nostalgic, I bought the album on MP3 format It did bring back a lot of memories, most notably lamenting that I never got to see the band AND I find nothing on Wolfgangs Vault.perhaps that will be rectified.Anyway, all the best to you,Mick.John and Pete also, should you remain in contact....

I was also interested to learn that you played at Hatchettes. I gather this must have been 1968? It's about the time that two other musicians I know about were playing there.

Lloyd Courtney was a drummer who played in the house band and used to play with a bass player who was a skin head - Does that ring a bell? Years earlier Lloyd played with Mick Rogers in the Vision, who I have written about in Procession and went on to Manfred Mann's Earth Band.

I am trying to track Lloyd down because the guitarist in the house band for a while was a Canadian friend of mine called Stan Endersby, who went on to play in Mapleoak with Peter Quaife. I am sure they backed Horace Faith in the autumn of '68.

Yet another interesting connection is Richie Blackmore. When he was living in Germany in late '67 just before Deep Purple formed, he used to hang out with a Stoke on Trent band called the Colour Supplement and I believe very nearly joined them. Their keyboard player George Glover now plays with The Climax Blues Band. Sadly their singer Phil Tunstall died in a car accident in South Africa in 1970.

Anyway, I am rambling. Hope some of this might ring a bell?

Hi Mick

I was directed to your site after being in touch with John Kerrison and Jimmy Royal as I am doing some research on the West London music scene during the 1960s. It's amazing the famous musicians that were playing in that area.

I was struck by all the connections that pop up with some of the bands I have written about (see Penny Peeps article on my website above in the side panel link) that also link in with your career.

I was wondering whether you might remember an Ealing band called Jeff Curtis and The Flames, who played at the Ealing Jazz Club; they even recorded a demo for Joe Meek in 1963.

I am in contact with two of the musicians who now live in Toronto - guitarist Louis McKelvey and drummer Malcolm Tomlinson. Malcolm must have gone to the same school as you but would have been in the year below. He's from Isleworth and said that Ian McLagen was in the year above.

Interestingly enough, Malcolm joined the Noblemen in 1966 alongside Martin Barre of future Jethro Tull fame who came in as a replacement for Keith Gemmell! You can see more at the Penny Peeps article.

Apart from Jeff Curtis, Louis and Malcolm, the other members were Keith Gardiner, Dave Wiggington and a sax player called CB. I was wondering if you might know where they might be now? I wasn't sure how tight knit the community was then.

If you can help with any of the above, I would be most grateful.

best wishes
Nick

Just stopping buy to say hello and thanks for Quatermass.
I am old enough to remember your impressive live concert with that group on BBC Radio 1. Would have been about 1969/70.
Loved the sound as I liked Hammond organ and had loads of Jimmy Smith's albums.
Year or two later saw the stunning album cover of the vinyl LP in a department store (lol) in Ayr, Scotland, in a sale. Pounced on it!
Been playing it again recently since I have resurrected the 1970 Thorens turntable, then saw this site today after googling "quatermass LP".
Best regards
Iain

It will be interesting to read about touring with Man in black. And it should not be demeaning, Even Mick dedicates site to "all he played with"

The more I listen to the Quatermass CD (formerly LP), the more I enjoy it...and the more I wish I could have seen them perform live...dunno WHICH I enjoy more the bass-work, the vocals, the keyboards, or yur drumming - they're all AWESOME. Thanks, Mick!

Hi Mick, I was looking for pictures of my dad Terry Clark when he was with the Herd and I came across your web site. It was great to see the photo of him. Do you remember much about those days when you played the drums for them?
Would love to hear back.

Cheers
Lauren
